Ultrasound

An ultrasound exam uses sound waves to show images of our internal tissues and organs. All of our technologists are registered in ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). The technologist will use a special machine with a transducer to send sound waves into the body and then captures the returning wave from the body to make a picture. Warm gel is placed on the transducer, or the patient's body to act as a conductor of the sound waves. No radiation is used in this process, and the exam is non-invasive and is not harmful to the patient. Depending upon the type of exam, preparation may be necessary by fasting and/or maintaining a full bladder, but many exams may have no prep at all. Your provider's office will give you the appropriate instructions for your specific exam.
